Representatives of political parties, the government, the Assembly of the Republic, electoral bodies, civil society, diplomatic entities, academics and the media, among other guests, gathered on Tuesday, January 25, in Maputo City, to jointly reflect on the political challenges and prospects for the year 2025.
The event served to reflect on the political agenda for 2025, a year significantly marked by the events of 2024 and which will be very structuring for the next five years that will make up a new cycle of government in Mozambique.
Among its main objectives, the meeting sought to identify the political, economic and social priorities for 2025 and beyond, assess the role of political parties, civil society and state institutions in democratic governance, and promote dialogue as an essential tool for building consensus and strengthening democratic institutions.
The organizers also intend to use this meeting as an opportunity to promote much-needed dialogue, especially given the politically tense context following the 2024 election process and the emergence of new political actors occupying prominent positions in formal and informal decision-making forums.
The results of the meeting will later be systematized in the form of reflections and policy briefs that can serve to enrich reflections on legislative and behavioural reforms to strengthen democracy in Mozambique.
The round table was organized by the Institute for Multiparty Democracy (IMD), in partnership with the MASC Foundation, as part of the implementation of the Pro-Civic & Human Rights project, funded by the Finnish Embassy.
