The Finnish Ambassador took part in the Human Rights Defenders Summit today and gave a speech in which she highlighted the vital role of human rights defenders, not only in building a just society and democratic systems, but also in promoting the rights of the most vulnerable groups. She also highlighted the challenges in Finland, mentioning the realization of the rights of the Sami people - the only indigenous people in the European Union.
This summit was organized within the framework of the Pro-Civic and Human Rights Project funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by the consortium made up of IMD, CSSM, CESC and CDD. Good governance and human rights-based approaches are crucial cross-cutting themes in Finland's foreign and development policy.
