As part of the Pro-Cívico project, which aims to engage civil society in decision-making processes at different levels of governance, the MASC Foundation supported civil society organizations in setting up a platform for local CSOs with the aim of ensuring that they can liaise with government officials and other local players to maintain peace and sustainable development in the Memba district.
According to Jorge Afito, Pro-Civic Mobilizer in Memba, the creation of the Memba Union of Civil Society Organizations (UOSCM) will boost CSOs and synchronize the actions of CSOs in that district.
"There was a need to map all the organizations and create a single network with the aim of promoting collaboration between the community and the government. We want to promote participatory governance in Memba," explained Afito.
It should be noted that there has never been a similar initiative in the Memba district, and this is the first time that several local CSOs have come together to take joint action in defense of their rights.
Given the relevance of the initiative and the network's aims, an event to formalize the forum with the district's government officials, partners and local players is scheduled for June.
Around 50 people from the following CSOs will take part in this session: Ehali, Elementares, Narawas, Arame, Aname, Okame, Sanar, Village Development Committees (CDA), Civic Incubators (CI), Savings Groups (GP) and Ambassadors for Peace.
