IMD receives courtesy visit from the Finnish Embassy

On Tuesday, January 28, the Finnish Ambassador, Satu Lassila, paid a working visit to the Institute for Multiparty Democracy (IMD) at its offices in Maputo. Accompanied by the Coordinator of the Cooperation Session at the Embassy, Lia Mara Pinto, the diplomat was received by a team led by the IMD's Executive Director, Hermenegildo Mulhovo.
At the meeting, the IMD shared the Mozambican political context, with a greater focus on the situation of the post-election crisis. On the occasion, despite recognizing that the context is quite challenging, the IMD Executive Director defended the need to take advantage of the context to strengthen democratic institutions and, in this way, reduce the risk of post-election crises emerging in the future.

On the occasion, the IMD shared some of the main results of the projects implemented with the Embassy's support, looking ahead to 2025, and the parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together to help strengthen the democratic system in Mozambique.

The Embassy of Finland has been a partner of IMD for more than 8 years. With its support, IMD is coordinating the implementation of the Pro-Civics and Human Rights program, as well as implementing others linked to the Extractive Industry sector since 2017.
