Civil society in Nampula improves knowledge of monitoring, advocacy and citizenship

On Tuesday, April 22, in the city of Nampula, Nampula province, a two-day training course on monitoring public policies, advocacy and the exercise of citizenship began. The event is being held as part of the Schools for Democracy initiative and its theme is: "Training on Monitoring Public Policies, Advocacy and the Exercise of Citizenship & Dissemination of the Guide on Good Practices for Peace, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion".

Participating in this training are 25 representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) and social activists from the districts of Mogovolas, Moma, Angoche and Memba. The training aims to strengthen the capacities of CSOs and citizens, equipping them with knowledge and tools for monitoring public policies, advocacy actions and the full exercise of citizenship.

The meeting included speeches by the president of the Provincial Platform of Civil Society Organizations of Nampula Province (PPOSC-NP), Luísa Hoffman, and the IMD project manager, Carvalho Cumbi.

Hoffman said that the training will help participants play a more active role in the development of their communities and places of origin. In the same vein, Carvalho Cumbi highlighted the training's contribution to strengthening local civil society organizations, promoting their capacity to positively influence the defence of human rights and the interests of communities in public policies.

This meeting is being held by IMD, in partnership with PPOSC, as part of the implementation of the "Pro Cívico e Direitos Humanos" program, funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Embassy in Mozambique, and in partnership with the PROPAZ program, funded by the European Union.
